Summary

  • Dr. Ahmed is the first CMIO at The Aga Khan University (AKU), a global network of hospitals and clinics across several lower-middle income countries. He has a key leadership role facilitating the articulation, understanding and collaborative development of the functional and clinical protocols and workflow requirements identified by the medical faculty, nursing services and other health professional communities across the hospitals and in all AKU regions. He serves as an advocate of best practices for promoting the use of information technology systems in the clinical settings, globally across the AKU network.

Prior to this role, Dr. Ahmed was the lead instructor for MEDITECH's Clinical Leadership Preparedness Program, engaging with physician leaders and hospital executives within the MEDITECH customer community to help them better deploy their system. As an Executive Physician Advisor, he worked directly with clinical executives (CMIO's, CMO's, CNO's, etc.) to form effective governance mechanisms. Based on site specific workflows and resources, he played a pivotal role in helping clinical leaders with key decisions regarding workflow process reengineering strategies in hospital systems across the U.S. and Canada.

Having worked with dozens of hospital systems over the past decade, Dr. Ahmed has keenly observed that “we all seem to do the same work, but differently”. He is passionate about how effective Physician led teamwork can aptly wield healthcare technology to substantially improve outcomes for patients, hospital systems, and the clinicians who work there.
