- Dr. Kim Burchiel is a neurosurgeon based in Portland, OR, specializing in deep brain stimulation for movement disorders such as Parkinson's Disease, and Essential Tremor; facial pains including trigeminal neuralgia; epilepsy surgery including mesial temporal lobe surgery, vagus nerve stimulation and DBS; and peripheral nerve surgery including tumor surgery. He completed his medical education at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine, followed by a surgical internship at Los Angeles County-Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and a residency in Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington. Since 1988, he has served as Professor and Chairman of the department of Neurological Surgery at Oregon Health and Science University School of Medicine, and now serves as Professor. Dr. Burchiel has contributed to various publications in the field of neurosurgery and has served as the principal investigator in clinical trials focusing on DBS, facial pain, and other surgery for pain. He has received multiple honors, including Distinguished Service awards from the Society of University Neurosurgeons, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and the Society of Neurological Surgeons. He is the recipient of Lifetime Achievement awards from the World Society for Functional Neurosurgery and the North American Neuromodulation Society. He has earned the Kline award of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Oldfield Award of the American Academy of Neurological Surgery. He has lectured extensively internationally on the topics related to Functional Neurosurgery.
