Overview of Dr. Mayer
Dr. Laurel Mayer is a psychiatrist based in New York, NY, specializing in (1) clinical research and treatment of eating disorders and obesity as well as (2) physician mental health. She graduated from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1993 and completed her psychiatry residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University. Her research primarily focuses on the physiological and behavioral aspects of weight management, as evident from her publications on the POWERS study in the International Journal of Obesity. She has served as a principal investigator in clinical trials investigating the mechanisms behind weight regain, bulimia nervosa, and eating behaviors influenced by weight loss medications.
She also has significant interest in the mental health care of physicians and physician trainees, and directs CopeGME, a mental health service for residents and fellows at NYP/Columbia.
