Summary
- I am a clinical psychologist and I work both with general adult psychiatry patients as well as patients with inflammatory bowel disease and other GI problems. The work with IBD patients has stimulated me to study the comorbidity of Crohn's disease and depression. I collaborate with researchers who developed an internet based longitudinal study of volunteer IBD patients. Findings include evidence for a unidirectional relationship between a cognitive aspect of depression, negativity to the self, and patient reported Crohn's disease activity. We have studied health behaviors as possible mediators of the depression - Crohn's association. Now we are going forward with a proposed life course analysis of the comorbidity of depression and Crohn's.
