Summary

  • Laurie Thibodeau received her MD from Tufts University and is now a Professor, Director of Undergraduate Medical Education in emergency medicine (EM), and Director of Climate Change and Global Health at Albany Medical Center. As core teaching faculty, her career has centered on medical education, and she served as the Clerkship Director for the mandatory rotation for over ten years, then as the national President of Clerkship Directors in Emergency Medicine (CDEM) overseeing all undergraduate EM education and contributing to the creation of national EM curricula, National Board assessments, and resources for both students and faculty. She also serves as the co-Chair of Innovations for the Society for Academic Emergency Physicians (SAEM). Beyond teaching, her passion includes health equity, environmental stewardship, climate change and health, and global medicine, and she completed a Health Equity Fellowship through Harvard’s Cambridge Health Alliance. She has participated in international medicine as well as projects at home involving diversity and equity through employee development and community outreach. Realizing how environmental factors disproportionately impact vulnerable communities, her newest focus is the impact of climate change on health, and she completed an Environmental Health Fellowship through the New York State Children’s Environmental Health Centers. She is now working to lead the integration of climate health education into the Albany Medical College curriculum. She is also developing an Environmental Health Task Force to reduce the carbon footprint of her institution. She also enjoys scuba diving and hiking any mountain she encounters.
