  • Luis Washington Lu, M.D. is the head at Eye Consultants of Arizona, former Chief of Ophthalmology at the Pennsylvania Eye Consultants/Elk County Eye Clinic until 2014 when relocated to Arizona. Dr. Lu is a Cum Laude graduate of CH Peruvian University affiliate to Johns Hopkins, completing his Internship in 1976. After training in General Surgery, he finished his training in Ophthalmology at the HHC Division of Columbia University in New York, with rotations at the Arm Forces Institute of Pathology, Fellowship in Oculoplastic Reconstructive Surgery sponsored by the New York Oculoplastic Society, and Fellowship in Cornea and External Diseases at Columbia University. Former Clinical Instructor at the University of Pittsburgh, he trained dozens of international fellows in complex eye surgical procedures.

    Dr. Lu is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, diplomate of the American Board of Eye Surgery, Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has received the AAO Achievement Award, the ASCRS Award, the Barraquer Award from the KMSG, awards from different ophthalmological societies.

    He had further trained in corneal transplantation at Johns Hopkins, Harvard Medical School and University of Syracuse. He had received mentorship at the Microsurgery Institute of Moscow (Prof. Fyodorov) ,and Kyriu, Japan (Prof. Momose). He was the President of the Elk-Cameron Medical Society.

    Dr. Lu has written 4 books in Ophthalmology, 20 chapters for books in the specialty, over 500 articles in Continuing Medical Education, articles, and designed instruments for modern cataract surgery.

    He presently lives in Arizona with his wife of 45 years, Laura, proud parents of the Architect L. Michael Lu, and the future Dr. Andrew N. Lu.

    The family has donated the Eye Unit for Children in Abancay, the waiting room for the Eye Department in Lima, the Eye Unit for Chincha, Peru, and the Free Clinic for the Needy at Rocky Point.
