Summary

  • Dr. Maria Evans is a pathologist based in Kirksville, MO, specializing in anatomic and clinical pathology. She completed her pathology residency at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she also earned her medical degree. She was on staff there from 1995-2000.

In July 2000, Dr. Evans moved to Kirksville Missouri, first working for Chariton Laboratory Services as a staff pathologist. In 2009, the practice was sold to Boyce & Bynum Pathology, Columbia, MO and subsequently to MAWD Pathology in 2023. Her academic roles included serving as an Associate Professor at A. T. Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine from 2000-2015, garnering several teaching awards. Prior to that, she was an Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Her published work includes studies on rheumatoid arthritis and medical education reform.

In 2015, Dr. Evans retired from teaching and moved to half time status as an anatomic and clinical pathologist, in order to do the coursework and training necessary to become ordained as a priest in the Episcopal Church. She took courses remotely from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, CA and was ordained to the priesthood in June 2017. She does interim work for various congregations on weekends, providing a stable presence for them between their settled clergy. Although she knows a few people who are bivocational as physician/priest, it is, indeed, a rare combination! She intends to retire in 2027, "God willin' and the creek don't rise."
