Summary

  • Marie Hanna, currently the division chief for regional anesthesia and acute pain management at Johns Hopkins, an Associate Professor of anesthesia and critical care since 2012, completed a Master’s degree in health care education in 2016. As faculty at Johns Hopkins for the past 16 years, I moved up to be a leader in the field of acute pain management excelling in patient centered care, clinical research and quality improvement projects. I am viewed as the expert in acute pain management at Johns Hopkins Health Care System. I am the founder and the director of an innovative multidisciplinary perioperative pain program for chronic opioid users that adds value to patient care by improving perioperative pain control, reducing opioid use and reducing the percentage of patients who might become chronic opioid users. I received multiple awards and was recently nominated as one of the Top Successful Egyptian Women. I have participated as a speaker at multiple national and international conferences. In the past few years I presented work in acute pain management in England, Italy and Germany.
    I lead a large division and serve as one of the leaders in the Opioids stewardship program at johns Hopkins health care system. I Value the concept of serving leadership and see an opportunity of growth and success in everyone.

    My research Focus is in developing multidisciplinary pain programs, education and research to improve function and quality of life for patient with chronic pain. Currently the PI for a CDC R01 Grant to evaluate and improve the Perioperative Pain Program (PPP) for chronic opioid users undergoing surgical procedures.
