He completed his residency in Public Health and General Preventive Medicine at the University of Michigan School of Public Health between 1988 and 1992, and holds an MPH in epidemiological science and methods from the same institution. Dr. Boulton graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine in 1987. His recent publications include work on quantifying vaccine uptake, the social determinants of childhood vaccination, disparities in vaccine access, and global vaccine equity in low- and middle-income countries including India, China, Kenya, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ghana, Nigeria, Nepal, as well as domestic research in the U.S.. His research, comprising over 200 peer review publications, 2 textbooks, and more than 100 published abstracts and book chapters has appeared in multiple journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Jama, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Pediatrics, the American Journal of Epidemiology, the American Journal of Public Health, and the journal, Vaccine. His research has been cited by extensively by other authors and he is very active in the scientific and medical editorial community serving the last 12 years as the Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine and is in his 14th year on the Editorial Board of the U.S. CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
