  Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD), Critical Limb Ischemia (CLI) and subsequent Amputation are leading causes of morbidity and mortality in our country.
  
  A Trans-metatarsal Amputation (TMA) is associated with a 22% or more 1 year mortality and 39% 5 year mortality where, as a Below the Knee Amputation (BKA) is associated with a 52% 1 year mortality and an 82% 5 year mortality.
  This is further exacerbated by the fact that 50% or more of patients do not undergo angiography and possible vascular intervention prior to amputation.
