Summary

  • I am Vice-Chair for Addiction Psychiatry at Boston Medical Center/Boston University Department of Psychiatry and am Associate-Clinical Professor in Psychiatry. As Vice-Chair, I mentor Addiction Psychiatry faculty and precept and mentor Addiction Psychiatry Fellows, Psychiatry residents and other trainees who have career interests in Addiction Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, and clinical research in substance use disordered populations.

    I earned undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I am board certified in Adult Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine, and have training and experience in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. I have been the recipient of a Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse examining developmental trajectories for children at high risk for developing substance use disorders. I have been PI and Co-Investigator on numerous clinical studies and prospective studies funded by the National Institutes of Health, examining the relationships among impulsivity, substance use disorders, and suicidal behavior in adolescents and adults. I have research interest and experience in conducting clinical trials in substance-abusing adolescents and adults. I have strong interest and experience in designing and implementing numerous continuous quality improvement and systems redesign projects in the Veterans Healthcare Administration. I have served as a site PI for a multi-site study, from Substance Use Disorders Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (SUD¬QUERI), entitled: “A Multi-Faceted Intervention to Improve Alcohol Dependence Pharmacotherapy Access.”
