• Dr. Michael E. Selsted is a pathologist based in Los Angeles, CA, with subspecialties in molecular genetics, clinical pathology, and immunopathology. He completed his residency at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine/UCLA Medical Center in 1988, and was Assistant Professor at UCLA from 1985 to 1989. Dr. Selsted was appointed Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology at UC Irvine in 1989, was promoted to Professor in 1993, and then served as Professor and Chair from 2000 to 2009. In 2009, Selsted joined the Keck School of Medicine at USC where he was Professor and Chair of Pathology from 2009 to 2024. In 2025 he was appointed as the MacFarlane Professor of Immunopathology at Keck. Dr. Selsted's research focuses on host defense peptides in health and disease. His discovery of macrocyclic peptides in nonhuman primates has led to the design of peptide drug candidates for treating autoimmune, autoinflammatory, and infectious diseases and cancer. He is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians.
