Overview of Dr. El Kawkgi
Expertise in thyroid disorders including autoimmune thyroid disease, thyroid nodules and cancer. He serves as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Kentucky where he also is the Associate Program Director of the Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Fellowship Program. At UK HealthCare's Markey Cancer Center, he directs the Thyroid Oncology Clinic. He earned his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Massachusetts, and his endocrinology clinical and research fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, where he also was on faculty and held leadership roles in medical education. His career is centered on a passion for precision medical education and individualizing endocrine care, which shapes both his clinical practice and research agenda. Dr. El Kawkgi has published more than 40 peer-reviewed articles and is a former ssociate editor for the American Thyroid Association's journal Clinical Thyroidology. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and playing soccer.
