  • Dr. Pacheco (pronounced Puh-Check-O”) is a board-certified colon & rectal surgeon and a board-certified general surgeon who focuses on the operative and non-operative treatment of diseases of the colon, rectum and anus. He was born and raised in Illinois and trained at the University of Illinois and Southern Illinois University. He has practiced in Springfield Illinois for over a decade.

    Dr. Pacheco's practice focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the colon, rectum and anus. He is double board certified in general surgery and in colorectal surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He routinely performs screening colonoscopy. He is often referred to patients with large and difficult to remove polyps and uses techniques such as EMR (endoscopic mucosal resection) to remove these polyps. In addition to colonoscopy, he routinely performs upper endoscopy and offers screening for Barrett's esophagus and diagnostic EGD for anemic patients. Benign anorectal conditions that Dr. Pacheco treats frequently include blood per rectum, the surgical and nonsurgical management of internal and external hemorrhoids, anal fissures, anorectal abscesses and fistulas, fecal incontinence, rectal prolapse. Anal cancer/anogenital warts/AIN I-III/SLIL/HSIL are a common part of his practice. He also offers minimally invasive and open surgical approaches for colorectal cancer, diverticulitis, and inflammatory bowel disease. He places tunneled ports for patients needing chemotherapy. Dr. Pacheco is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at SIU School of Medicine in the general surgery residency and colorectal surgery fellowship.
