Summary

  • AcuPsychiatry is my integrative treatment for emotional disorders, intended for those who don’t sufficiently benefit from usual strategies. I combine acupuncture and other energy-balancing approaches with medication and psychotherapy. These treatments, when combined, can be powerfully synergistic in my experience. Following stabilization, routine and relatively infrequent appointments (every 1 to 3 months) some chronic patients may improve their functioning and sometimes decrease medication doses. These experiences have led me to believe some of what we call "treatment resistance" and "treatment failure" may result from chronic stagnation or blockage of energy flow.
Psychiatric diagnosis does not imply a specific cause or treatment. This needs to be determined for each patient. For example, a depression in a postpartum patient is different from a geriatric or adolescent patient. “Depression” does not define what’s wrong. Different approaches are used to evaluate imbalances and stimulate the body's natural healing toward balance. The state of the physical body, its energy fields and cognitive/emotional/behavioral disruptions may all contribute to what we identify as psychiatric disorders.
