  • Dr. Bonis is a physician entrepreneur, executive, and internationally renowned academic leader. He was part of the founding group at UpToDate®, which has grown to become the leading evidence-based knowledge resource used by health professionals in the world. It was acquired by Wolters Kluwer in 2008.

    Dr. Bonis has served as chief medical officer leading the team of physicians, pharmacists, engineers, informaticists, and business development executives who create clinical content across medical specialties, referential and embedded drug information, and patient engagement solutions. Dr. Bonis has also been responsible for partnerships across the healthcare spectrum, particularly with electronic medical record vendors and other technology companies.

    Dr. Bonis is an experienced healthcare investor. He has been part of the M&A team at Wolters Kluwer Health. In addition, he has served for more than ten years as an advisor for Long River Health, a venture capital firm focusing on healthcare investments.

    Dr. Bonis is adjunct professor of medicine in the division of gastroenterology at Tufts Medical Center. He has published more than sixty research articles as well as several chapters and multiple thought-leadership pieces in written and visual media outlets.

    Dr. Bonis is an expert in evidence-based medicine, and translation of knowledge into practice including methods to incorporate knowledge (both experiential and published) into workflow. In addition to his work in commercial markets, he is cofounder of the UpToDate® donations program, a partnership with Harvard’s Ariadne labs, which provides free access and studies the impact of UpToDate® in resource-limited settings.

    Dr. Bonis received his AB from Harvard University, his MD from New York University and post-graduate training in internal medicine, gastroenterology, hepatology and in health services research at Tufts University.
