Summary
- I am a practicing neurologist at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN with subspecialty training in movement disorders and behavioral neurology with a particular emphasis on neurodegenerative diseases. I work in the Cole Center for Parkinson's and Movement Disorders where I see patient with a variety of movement disorders, e.g., Parkinson disease, dystonia, Huntington disease, etc. I also work in the Pat Summitt Clinic where I see patients with memory impairment and other cognitive disorders, e.g., , e.g., Alzheimer disease, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal lobar degeneration, etc.. I am developing the UTMC Movement Laboratory to conduct movement electrophysiology studies to characterize various movements, such as tremors. In addition to diagnosing patients with neurologic conditions, I provide a wide range of specialized treatments, such as deep brain stimulation and botulinum toxin injections.
My primary research interests include leveraging advanced various technologies to enhance the diagnosis and treatment of movement disorders with a particular emphasis on tremors and complex gait disorders.
I regularly educate medical students, residents, and fellows. I am passionate about providing accurate medical information to the public and frequently give lectures both locally and abroad. I have generated a repository of YouTube videos and Podcast episodes to provide information to the general public about neurodegenerative diseases (See more at https://www.youtube.com/@PhilipTiptonMD and https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/long-live-the-brains/id1492601739?ls=1).
