• Dr. Ponciano Cruz is a dermatology subspecialist based in Dallas, Texas. He completed his residency in Dermatology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, after graduating from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine in 1979. Since 1991, Dr. Cruz has been serving as a professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where he directed the Dermatology Residency Program from 1991 to 2022. He subspecializes in contact dermatitis, patch testing, and alopecia areata; and he coheads a research team that has discovered novel immune checkpoint molecules for targeted treatment of melanoma and other cancers. He has served as President of the Society for Investigative Dermatology and the Photomedicine Society, Editor-in-Chief of Dermatitis, and founder of the Dermatology Teachers Exchange Group. He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications and has been the recipient of numerous national and global awards for teaching and mentoring.
