Summary

  • Dr. Garimella is a nephrologist and epidemiologist with a research interest in vascular disease and biomarkers for kidney, cardiovascular disease and mortality. His current projects include evaluating risk factors for peripheral artery disease in CKD and accurate diagnosis and risk stratification of high risk patients. He also researches novel urinary and serum biomarkers and their utility in identifying progressive kidney disease and incident cardiovascular disease, with a hope that these will help with better prediction of outcomes, and provide opportunities for earlier interventions to reduce adverse clinical events.

After graduating from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER, India), Dr. Garimella completed a Masters of Public Health in Epidemiology from the University of Minnesota and subsequently his internal medicine residency at John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County, Chicago.

Dr. Garimella is very interested in developing and implementing tools for patient education for chronic diseases, evaluating quality of life, and patient satisfaction with hospitals, providers, and treatment modalities.
