Summary

  • Randall Espinoza, MD, MPH is currently Professor of Clinical Psychiatry in the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry, Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at UCLA and holds the Muriel Harris Endowed Chair in Geriatric Psychiatry. From 2007 to 2009 he served as Chief of Staff of the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA. From 2009 to 2022, he served as the Training Director of the UCLA Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship Program. Since 2000 he has been Medical Director of the UCLA RNPH Electroconvulsive Therapy and Interventional Psychiatry Program. He also serves on the Medical IRB-3 of the UCLA School of Medicine. He received his BS degree in Bioengineering from Columbia University in New York, MD from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, and Executive MPH from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Public Health. He completed psychiatry residency training at UT Southwestern / Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC, and at the Olive View-UCLA Hospitals. He completed a geriatric psychiatry fellowship at the UCLA NPI and has expertise in ECT, VNS, TMS, DBS and other interventional methods. He is a Master Educator with certification from the Association for Academic Psychiatry and completed the UCLA Medical Faculty Fellowship program. In 2002 he received the Outstanding House Staff Teaching Award from the UCLA Department of Psychiatry, and in 2003 he received a Geriatric Academic Career Development Award (K01) from the Human Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. He is actively involved in professional and scientific societies, and also serves on the editorial boards of or as reviewer for top medical and psychiatric journals. He has an active clinical and forensic practice as well as ongoing research portfolio in neuromodulation, treatment-resistant depression and medical and inter-professional training and education.
