- Dr. Aslakson is a critical care anesthesiologist and palliative care researcher and clinician who is the Chair and a Professor with Tenure in the Network Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Vermont. Her research goal is to improve delivery of effective and equitable palliative care, particularly in perioperative and critically ill populations. Triple boarded in critical care, anesthesia, and hospice and palliative medicine and with a PhD in clinical research and advanced graduate training in qualitative methods, she is an active clinician, academician, and researcher. She is, or has been, a PI or co-I on multiple studies supported through diverse funders (i.e., PCORI, AHRQ, The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, The National Palliative Care Research Center, Johns Hopkins University, and the Stanford University Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative, and Pain Medicine). She has published over a hundred peer-reviewed publications, received multiple national and international awards for her work, and is highly active in professional societies including the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, and the International Anesthesia Research Society.
