Summary

  • I am not a general endocrinologist. I have cross trained in Endocrine neck ultrasound, and nuclear thyroidology, thyroid cytopathology, Interventional thyroid ablation procedures. I taught thyroid cytology for endocrinologists for AACE and ACE for 6 years. I am an AACE, ACE certified endocrine neck sonologist ECNU. I am involved in the new wave of molecular markers for thyroid cancer and have a several papers on the subject. I have trained in ethanol and radiofrequency ablation for benign thyroid nodules with Roberto Valcavi in Italy. I teach ethanol and Radiofrequency ablation to other endocrinologists, ENT and thyroid surgeons.Treated over 100 cases with cysts or cancer nodes with ethanol ablation. My Masters class in clinical thyroidology has been taken by endocrinologists wanting a new professional life without internal medicine or Diabetes. Review of every thyroid cytology and a personal look at the actual slides have saved unnecessary surgery, changed the surgery, and even the final diagnosis when a review of the surgical pathology finds problems with the final interpretation. My future research involves radiofrequency ablation RFA for benign thyroid nodules. It has the potential to decrease the number of surgeries for benign nodules and when molecular markers are able to tell the "bad" thyroid cancer from the non-life threatening majority RFA and or ethanol can ablate the cancer in the thyroid gland and not operate.
