- Dr. Ritha Belizaire is a board certified general and colorectal surgeon and the owner of Houston Community Surgical, a solo private surgical practice in Houston, Texas. She offers accessible, equitable, individualized colorectal care to patients in the Houston community. Prior to opening her practice, she was an Assistant Professor of Surgery at UT Health Houston and the Vice Chair of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for the Department of Surgery prior to the enactment of Texas Senate Bill 17 which dismantled DEI programs across Texas public institutions. She completed her fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and her residency in General Surgery from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center/College of Medicine. Her expertise and interests lie in both malignant and benign colorectal diseases, pelvic floor dysfunction and colonoscopy. She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, Society of Black Academic Surgeons, Society of Black Colon and Rectal Surgeons, Texas Medical Association and Harris County Medical Society. When not running her practice or taking care of patients, Dr. Belizaire enjoys spending time with her daughters.
