Following fellowship training he was employed for four years in the University of Iowa Office of Consultation and Research in Medical Education (OCRME) and served as a full-time faculty at Johns Hopkins University, Emory University and the University of Florida before coming to Oakland University. For six years he practiced clinically as a certified physician assistant where he advocated the principles of health promotion and disease prevention in his work with patients.

He was the Founding Director of the OU Complementary Medicine and Wellness Graduate Certificate Program and generated over .5M in research grants and contracts for the School--a significant portion was used to employ seven SHS graduate students as research assistants. He was awarded professor emeritus status in 2013 and continues as a lecturer and research mentor/dissertation advisor for OU students.

He has completed specialized training in behavioral medicine at the Mind-Body Medicine Institute of the Harvard Medical School.
