He completed his medical education at the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Medicine in 2001, followed by an internship in Internal Medicine at New York University Downtown Hospital. Dr. Chavala completed his Ophthalmology residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and further specialized with a vitreoretinal surgical fellowship at Duke University Hospital. He completed a second fellowship in stem cells, angiogenesis, and regenerative medicine at Weill Cornell School of Medicine. He founded Retina of North Texas to offer optimized treatment strategies to patients suffering from retinal disease, and co-founded CiRC Biosciences to develop next generation regenerative therapies based on his research published in Nature and featured in the New England Journal of Medicine. Dr. Chavala has several publications focusing on neuroprotection, anti-inflammatory activities, and fibroblast reprogramming, with some of his work being cited multiple times.
