Summary

• Sandy X. Zhang-Nunes, MD is at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center and was the director of Oculofacial Plastic Surgery at the USC Keck School of Medicine for over 11 years from 2014-2025. She earned her undergraduate degrees at MIT and her medical degree at Johns Hopkins University, with a Howard Hughes research fellowship year at Harvard. She then completed her ophthalmology residency at UCLA as well as a prestigious two-year ASOPRS fellowship in Columbus, OH. She enjoys functional and aesthetic oculoplastic surgery, such as orbital decompressions, endoscopic forehead/brow lifting, as well as laser and light therapy, neuromodulators, and facial volumization treatments. She is the founder of The Cutting Edge: Oculofacial Plastic Surgery Surgical Skills Course, and is known for her research in dissolution of the various fillers to improve the safety of aesthetic treatments, as well as periocular laser and light treatments for ocular rosacea and dry eye. She also researches the applications of other technologies such as ultrasound as well as surgical outcomes and racial factors.
  She has won numerous national and international awards such as the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery’s Surgical Lester T. Jones Surgical Anatomy Award in 2024, Women in Ophthalmology Teaching Award in 2023, the International Aesthetic Expert Summit Innovation Forum Award 2023, Innovative Practitioner of the Year 2025 at the Los Angeles Multi-specialty Cosmetic Academy. She has been invited to speak all over the country and world, such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology, ASOPRS:The Oculofacial Society, American Academy of Dermatology, World Society of Oculofacial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Turkey, as well as other ophthalmology or aesthetic conferences around the world in South America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. She has been voted a Los Angeles Top Doctor for many years consecutively, starting as a rising star in 2016.
