  • Dr Scott Fried is board certified in orthopaedic surgery and did a fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hand Center. He subsequently studied with Dr. James Hunter, and expert in thoracic outlet injury and surgery.
    He is the chief surgeon at The Upper Extremity Institute, President of Doctor in the House and limits his practice to the conservative, alternative and operative treatment of upper extremity injury and especially complex nerve injury. His facility and practice were among the first to utilize alternative treatments such as self-hypnosis, biofeedback, massage and lifestyle modifications to treat thoracic outlet and complex nerve injury.
    Doctor in the House is dedicated to developing and manufacturing medical products, especially braces and splints to allow patients to heal and often avoid surgery designing these from the viewpoint of a surgeon more intimately addressing physiology with brace dynamics. There is also an emphasis on patient empowerment through understanding of their diseases and injuries.
    Dr Fried has lectured and written extensively on these problems and has authored three books on
    the subject.
    He is a member of the Philadelphia Hand Society, The Jefferson Hand Club, The American Osteopathic Association American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, The American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopaedics, The Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association, The Hand Surgery Section of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopaedics, The American Medical Association, The Jefferson Alumni Association of Thomas Jefferson University Medical College, The Greater Philadelphia Pain Society, The American Association for Hand Surgery (A.A.H.S.), The Greater Philadelphia Society for Clinical Hypnosis, The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and the International Society of Hypnosis. He enjoys spending time on the water, in the air and in the inventing lab as well as with his wife and three children.
