Summary

  • Retired now, and much happier for it!

Career summary? After nearly 16 years doing primary care in the private sector and gradually spending more and more time comforting the worried well while maximizing reimbursement, I moved to the public sector.

So now I've spent over 20 years with my office inside a penal institution, treating incarcerated convicted felons exclusively, and spent 17.5 years overseeing and administrating the health care delivery system for 23,000+ such patients over the entire state of WI before stepping back to do patient care only.

Working for the government has its own set of frustrations completely separate from those of private practice, but I've never regretted the move. My patients have very complex legitimate medical needs which challenge all my skills as I attempt to deliver their care.

And I tip my hat to all my mentors and peers from my days back in med school and residency and private practice, many of whom told me they knew I'd end up in prison someday . . .
