Summary
- I’m Dr. Shannon Marie Foster, MD, FACS—a trauma surgeon, educator, coach, mediator, and leadership strategist dedicated to transforming healthcare culture through emotional intelligence, communication, and career development.
My journey began in Ohio, where I earned my undergraduate and medical degrees before completing both General Surgery Residency and Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at a nationally recognized academic medical center. From early in my training, I embraced leadership, advocacy, and outreach—values that continue to shape my work today.
Over the past two decades, I’ve held diverse clinical and administrative roles across multiple trauma centers and healthcare systems. I’ve led multidisciplinary teams, developed Acute Care Surgery programs, driven performance improvement initiatives, and contributed to medical staff governance through ethics, credentialing, and policy development. These experiences have fueled my commitment to elevating team dynamics and supporting professionals in high-stakes environments.
Through SMF Consulting Services, I provide expertise in external peer review, utilization, quality assurance, expert witness services, and verification/certification support. And through SMF Facilitation Services, I offer strategic guidance and facilitation focused on conflict resolution, communication enhancement, and career strategy—especially for physicians and teams navigating complex professional landscapes.
I’m an award-winning speaker, mentor, and educator known for my contagious energy and strategic insight. Whether I’m in the OR, the boardroom, or a facilitation session, my mission is clear: to help healthcare professionals thrive, teams function at their highest level, and systems evolve with purpose and compassion.
I welcome opportunities to collaborate with healthcare professionals, educators, and leaders committed to meaningful change—connect with me to explore how we can elevate culture, communication, and careers together.
