Summary

  • Dr. Labib has been a practicing cardiologist for over 30 years at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, where he currently serves as the Director of the Echocardiography Laboratory, a position held since 2010. He has academic appointments at UMass Chan School of Medicine as Professor of Medicine, and Adjunct Professor in Medicine at Tufts Medical School.

Dr. Labib has been dedicated to teaching medical students, residents and fellows throughout his career. He has served as Clerkship Director for Tufts medical students for 10 years, and served as Cardiovascular Fellowship Training Program Director at Lahey for more than 15 years.

He has also been a course Director of the Lahey Annual Cardiovascular Symposium in Brewster, MA. for 25 years. This 4-day symposium is designed to disseminate knowledge and update attendees on the latest advances in Cardiology, and how to incorporate such advances into clinical practice for the benefit of patients.

The emerging percutaneous valvular and structural interventions are heavily dependent on advanced 3D-Transesophageal Echo imaging. Currently Dr. Labib is the primary echocardiographer for advanced echo imaging support during complex cardiac structural interventions at Lahey.

Dr. Labib has served as local site Principal Investigator in over a dozen multicenter trials at Lahey and has conducted several original research projects with fellows and residents, which led to many abstract presentations at national and international scientific meetings, and peer-reviewed publications, which have received over 2,000 citations (Google Scholar). He has an interest in hemodynamics and valvular heart disease and has been invited to present on this topic for Cardiology and Medical Grand Rounds, New England Valve and Structural Heart (NEVASH) Foundation, and other CME forums. He is the recipient of the “Words of Gold Award” in Lahey’s Topics in Internal Medicine Course in 2018 “In Recognition of Dedication and Commitment to Medical Education".
