He is a past president of the California Academy of Family Physicians and previous Director of the AAFP Division of Education. He is experienced in diabetes mellitus, medical education, primary care / family practice, and respiratory system disorders. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Diabetes, the ADA's primary care journal He is also Executive Vice President of the Primary Care Education Consortium.
