Summary
- I am originally from Southern California. Dad was an engineer and mom was a nurse influencing me to study Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University and Medicine at New York University. It was at NYU that I became an Army Officer.
Orthopedic surgery residency training brought me to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX a level 1 trauma center. I became an orthopedic surgeon because it combined my love of engineering and surgery to treat patients. During residency I rotated through Denver Children’s Hospital and enjoyed the energy of the patients and the impact Pediatric Orthopedic surgery made in their lives.
My Army assignment took me to Seoul, South Korea and then Landstuhl, Germany. During this time I focused on honing my arthroscopy sports and trauma skills and became Board Certified with sub-specialty certification in Orthopedic Sports Medicine. I then became a Fellow in Pediatric Orthopedic and Scoliosis Surgery at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego a pediatric level 1 trauma center.
After Fellowship I served as a Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon and Hip Preservation Surgeon at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, MD and Fort Belvoir Hospital, VA. In the 20+ years of military service I rose to the rank of Colonel, served on three combat tours, and was the Director for Surgical Services.
My current practice is at Children's National Medical Center, Washington, DC. My practice focus is on the orthopedic care of children to include club feet, limb deformity, sports, congenital hip, and neuromuscular conditions. I also treat and evaluate children and young adults who require hip preservation procedures including hip arthroscopy and peri-acetabular osteotomy.
I have a wonderful wife with two kids . Being a parent I evaluate each pediatric patient as if they were my own children. I believe treatment is an individualized and collaborative process that involves the patient, family, caregivers, and a compassionate healthcare team.
