  • Dr. Teodor Postolache is a board certified psychiatrist with broad experience treating mood and anxiety disorders, seasonal affective disorder, insomnia and circadian sleep disorders, schizophrenia, and increased risk for suicide. He completed his psychiatry residency at the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, followed by a fellowship in Psychobiology and Clinical Chronobiology at the National Institute of Mental Health/ Clinical Center of the NIH. He is also a diplomate of the Board of Behavioral Sleep Medicine https://www.bsmcredential.org/index.php/bsm-diplomates. His research on neuroimmunology/chronobiology of mood disorders, schizophrenia, sleep , metabolic and endocrine dysregulation was funded by NIH, FDA, the VA, NARSAD, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. His main research contributions include the first publication on cytokine gene expression in the brain of suicide decedents, the first publications on associations between suicidal behavior and risk factors with exposure to seasonal peaks of aeroallergens (replicated by his team in Denmark and others in Japan), chronic infection with the neurotropic pathogen Toxoplasma gondii (replicated metaanalytically) and elevated plasma kynurenine and its metabolites. He is affiliated with the VISN 5 MIRECC in Baltimore MD, and is a Visiting Senior Scientist with the Rocky Mountain MIRECC for Suicide Prevention, at the Regional VA Medical Center in Aurora Colorado. In recognition of his contributions, he has received prestigious honors such as the Distinguished Investigator Award from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the Independent Investigator Award from NARSAD, several Teacher of the Year Awards, and the Laughlin Fellowship Award from the American College of Psychiatrists. He works in Baltimore, MD, Silver Spring, MD, and Washington DC, and describes himself as a "head-to-toe", change-oriented, interactive, intuition-guided, context-informed, and evidence-based clinician.
