- Dr. Thomas Grist is a Professor of Radiology at the University of Wisconsin - Madison School of Medicine and Public Health and practicing radiologist at UW Health. Dr. Grist is Chair Emeritus of the UW Department of Radiology and a pioneer in the development of Magnetic Resonance Imaging methods, especially for cardiovascular imaging and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA). He completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at Duke University Hospital and a research fellowship at the National Biomedical ESR Center. Dr. Grist holds a medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin and a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering from Marquette University. His publications describe four decades of innovations in MRI coil design, MR Spectroscopy, MR Angiography, Contrast Agents, and multimodal cardiovascular imaging. More recent interests include leadership development, AI in medical imaging, and reducing the carbon footprint of medical imaging. He is the president-elect of the International Society for Strategic Studies in Radiology.
