  • Thomas Simpatico, MD is a psychiatrist and Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Vermont College of Medicine, specializing in community psychiatry and clinical informatics. He received his medical degree from Rush Medical College (1984) and completed his psychiatry residency at the University of Chicago (1988). His career has spanned decades of clinical, administrative, and public policy work focused on the planning, treatment, and delivery of services to individuals with serious mental illness and substance use disorders across inpatient, correctional, and community-based systems of care.

    A Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and past president of the Vermont Psychiatric Association, Dr. Simpatico has held senior leadership roles including Chief Medical Officer for the Vermont Medicaid Authority (2013–2017). He is the recipient of the National Alliance on Mental Illness Exemplary Psychiatrist Award and the Featherfist Humanitarian Service Award.

    In 2014, Dr. Simpatico founded MTS Group — a public-sector spin-off in partnership with the UVM College of Medicine — to translate his team's research into scalable real-world solutions in behavioral health.
