Summary

  • “Technology is the tool, patient care is the goal.”

Tony Dao received his Doctorate of Pharmacy at the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy in 2012. He then went into practicing in the field of clinical informatics under the Department of Pharmacy at the Ventura County Healthcare Agency. Having been involved in the build and implementation of VCHCA's new electronic health record, he has gained extensive experience in managing multiple projects, adapting to a quickly changing environment, and working with interdepartmental workflow design. After 5 years of experience, he began the next path of his career at CHOC Children's as a Pharmacy IS Specialist where he continues to work on many projects, including pharmacy optimization/documentation, oncology EHR implementation and maintenance, and maintenance of PharmNet, DoseEdge, Pyxis, and other services.

In addition, he is still in clinical practice as an inpatient pharmacist in a long-term acute care hospital. He believes that being active in both clinical practice and informatics will allow him to synergistically expand and improve both environments. Furthermore, he received his certification in Electronic Health Records (CPEHR), Health Information Technology (CPHIT), and Health Information Management Systems (CPHIMS) to continually broaden his knowledge-base in the health informatics field.

As an individual who strongly supports and promotes the pharmacy profession, he is actively involved in ASHP, CSHP, and CPhA, as well as regularly volunteering to lecture for several pharmacy schools. He is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor for Chapman University School of Pharmacy, specializing in pharmacy informatics. He is also co-founder of the Pharmacy Informatics Academy with his colleagues that share the same passion in pharmacy informatics.
