Summary

  • For much of my career, my primary interest has been in the medical management of chronic intractable pain. I have been involved in clinical research and lectured across the United States on the appropriate use of opioids. While some pain can only be managed with opioid medications, the misuse of opioids continues to be a problem of epidemic proportions. Even the FDA has recognized the need for opioid education! Nonetheless, patient education about proper use of opioids to manage pain is seriously lacking or non-existent. If opioids are to remain available for those that desperately need them, then patients and their families must be better educated about their opioid medications. To meet this need, I have developed a comprehensive, and easily understandable, educational program for patients requiring daily opioid medications.

The Keeton Opioid Education Program© is an online program for doctors and other caregivers to provide to patients to teach them what they need to know about their opioid medications. The program does not require any of the physician or office staff's time. My mission is to make this information available to everyone requiring opioids.
