Summary
- Currently retired. I am a board certified obstetrician and gynecologist. I started my career at the University of Miami as a faculty member, combining clinical practice, teaching and research, as any good academician would. At age 55 I resigned from my successful academic career to pursue other interests. As a result I have travelled extensively and practiced clinical OB&GYN as a locums in many different cultural settings in the USA and abroad, including: Japan; Pakistan; Anchorage and Sitka, Alaska; Australia; New Zealand; Tasmania; St Lucia in the West Indies; and Chiapas, Mexico. My wife and I have never regretted this decision and never looked back.
In the process of traveling and working, I have gained considerable crosscultural medical and non-medical experience. I ended up, at the prodding of my friends and colleagues, writing a book.
The book is titled: "Crosscultural Doctoring. On and Off the Beaten Path." It is available for free downloading via Smashwords. The link is: http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/161522 If that does not work: GOOGLE it!
I have the hope that reading the book will encourage others who are considering a career change and / or early retirement to take the leap. I also hope to motivate those who have had similar experiences to consider writing their story as well. I had great fun doing it, even though I was reluctant at first and needed a lot of encouragement.
