Dr. Zachary Bloomgarden is an endocrinologist based in New York, NY, with focus on diabetes, obesity, lipid metabolism and cardiorenal risk reduction. He completed his medical education and residency at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine and pursued a fellowship in endocrinology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Since 1979, he has been a Clinical Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and an Attending Physician at The Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Bloomgarden has clinical expertise in chronic kidney disease, obesity, lipid metabolism disorders, and diabetes, both type 1 and type 2. He has >600 publications in many areas relevant to diabetes and its complications. In 2012, Dr. Bloomgarden was awarded the title of Master of the American College of Endocrinology, and in 2020 he became a Fellow of the American Society for Preventive Cardiology. He has received multiple honors, including the American Diabetes Association Distinguished Service award, the Silver Magnolia Award from the City of Shanghai and the Gerald Reaven Distinguished Leader in Insulin Resistance award, as well as receiving CMS Meaningful Use Certification and having been recognized as a Top Doctor by US News and World Report, the New York Times, and Castle Connolly.
