Summary

  • Alan Yu, M.B., B.Chir. is Director of the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension and The Kidney Institute at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He is also the Harry Statland and Solon Summerfield Endowed Professor of Medicine at the University of Kansas. Dr. Yu received his medical degree from the University of Cambridge, England and completed his internship and residency in internal medicine, and clinical and research fellowships in nephrology at the Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School. He is an elected member of the American Society of Clinical Investigation and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

    Dr. Yu's primary research interests are in kidney physiology, epithelial cell biology, and translational research in polycystic kidney disease (PKD). He is the PI on three NIH-funded clinical studies in PKD and Director of the Clinical Research Core for the NIH-funded Kansas PKD Research and Translation Core Center. Dr. Yu has published over 100 scientific papers, chapters and reviews.

    Dr. Yu's clinical interests are in general nephrology, with a focus on fluid, electrolyte and acid-base disorders. He is a highly regarded teacher of fluid, electrolytes and acid-base, and has given lectures throughout the world, including teaching at the Harvard Medical School/Brigham Renal Board Review course annually for the past 20 years. He is an editor of "Brenner & Rector's The Kidney", the best-selling nephrology reference book worldwide.
