- Andrew Talal, MD, MPH is Professor of Medicine at SUNY Buffalo and a physician-scientist with a particular focus in hepatology. Dr. Talal is an alumnus of The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, class of 1990. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and research and clinical fellowships in gastroenterology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research include faciltated telemedicine as a healthcare delivery approach for management of hepatitis C virus infection among people with opioid use disorder. He recently completeed a randomized controlled trial of facilitated telemedicine that illustrated 90.3% hepatitis C virus cure through facilitated telemedicine compared to 39.4% in offsite referral. The study has been honored with a 2025 Top Ten Clinical Research Achievement Award. Dr. Talal serves on the New York State Hepatitis C Elimination Task Force and Guidelines committee. He also serves on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Technical Expert Panel for electronic clinical quality measures for his expertise in hepatitis C management.
