He served as Professor, Associate Director of Clinical Research and Vice Chair of Research at Emory University School of Medicine. He also was named as the inaugural John C. Kauffman Family Endowed Professor of Pancreatic Cancer Research. He served as Division Director of Hematology Oncology and Deputy Director of O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at University of Alabama at Birmingham. During his tenure at UAB he held the LoBuglio Endowed Chair for Translational Research. He is currently the Deputy Director of Moores Cancer Center at University of California San Deigo.
    Dr. El-Rayes is an NIH funded physician scientist with experience in leading clinical trials. He has published over 300 peer reviewed papers many in high impact journals. He has served on several national committees including NIH study section, NCCN Board of Directors, ACCRU Board of Directors, ASCO Guidelines and NCI NET Task Force. His research and teaching excellence has been recognized by several awards, including the School of Medicine Mentorship Award Emory University as well as V Foundation Translational Science Award.
