  • Dr. Bhavana Thota Kandikattu is a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and serves as the Pediatric Residency Program Director at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria. She also holds leadership roles as the Co-Associate Department Head for Education and as a Pediatric Hospitalist at the Children's Hospital of Illinois. Dr. Kandikattu completed her pediatric residency and internship at UICOMP and previously trained in Anesthesiology at Kasturba Medical College in India, where she also earned her medical degree.
    A nationally recognized medical educator and physician leader, Dr. Kandikattu is a graduate of the APPD LEAD program, the OSF McShane Physician Leadership Academy, and the Caterpillar Faculty Scholars Fellowship. Her academic contributions include mentoring faculty and trainees, leading innovative educational projects, and participating in multicenter research efforts focused on medical education, feedback systems, and residency wellness. She has presented at numerous national meetings and has multiple peer-reviewed publications and educational tools to her credit.
    Dr. Kandikattu holds board certifications in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hospital Medicine, and she is an active member of several professional organizations including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Society of Hospital Medicine, and the Association of Pediatric Program Directors.
    Recognized for her excellence in teaching and leadership, she is a two-time recipient of the UICOMP Excellence in Teaching Award and was named Department of Pediatrics Faculty Member of the Year in 2023. Her academic and professional service also extends into the community, where she has served as a youth mentor, fundraiser organizer, and cultural event coordinator.
