• Reconstructive urology, or genitourinary (GU) reconstruction, is a subspecialty within urology focused on managing and treating genitourinary injuries/ailments that affect normal voiding and sexual function.
  
  Diseases cared for by reconstructive urologists include urethral strictures and stenoses, pelvic fracture urethral injuries, bladder neck and anastomotic stenoses, ureteral strictures, ureteropelvic junction obstruction, urinary tract fistulas, urinary incontinence, Peyronie’s disease, buried penis, penile cancer, bladder cancer, urethral cancer, genital lymphedema, hidradenitis, and lesions.
  
  Procedures performed include urethroplasty, fistula repair, artificial urinary sphincter insertion, penile and testicular implantation, skin/mucosal graft harvesting, buried penis corrective surgery, genital wound coverage, phalloplasty, pyeloplasty, ureteral reimplantation, ureteral substitution, vesicopsoas hitch, Boari flap, and urinary diversion.
