Summary
- Christopher Alvarez-Breckenridge, M.D., Ph.D., is an assistant professor within MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Department of Neurosurgery with expertise in spinal tumors, particularly metastatic disease and immunotherapy. He was a member of the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at The Ohio State University where he received his combined M.D./Ph.D., and his doctoral research focused on oncolytic viral therapy for gliomas. He subsequently completed residency in neurosurgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. During that time, he was awarded the Massachusetts General Hospital Neurosurgery Research Award and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons Journal of Neuro-Oncology Award for his research on immunotherapy for brain metastases and leptomeningeal disease. Dr. Alvarez-Breckenridge became a fellow in Neurosurgical Oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2020 where he worked and learned alongside experts within the institution. His surgical practice focuses on tumors of the spine, and he is eager to build upon his prior research experiences to develop an immuno-oncology focused translational research program.
