Overview of  Dr. Charen

Daniel Charen, MD, FAAOS, FAANA, is a board certified and fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and shoulder. He is an elected Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Fellow of the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He is also an Instructor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the New York Medical College School of Medicine.

His focus is on both the non-operative and surgical treatment of shoulder, knee, and elbow conditions, and he provides a personalized approach to getting patients back to their active lifestyles. His expertise in sports medicine allows him to perform surgery using minimally invasive techniques, but he also has the skillset of using open approaches when necessary. In addition to providing care for local athletes, he has traveled to Europe and South America caring for the professional athletes of the United States Ski Team.


Dr. Charen is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America, and New York State Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons. His research on college athlete injuries has appeared in numerous publications, presentations, and media outlets.

Dr. Charen received his undergraduate degree at Cornell University. He graduated medical school from the University of Rochester with a Distinction in Research. He completed his Orthopedic Surgery residency at the Icahn School of Medicine Mount Sinai Hospital, followed by a Sports Medicine and Shoulder fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
