Summary

  • I am passionate about Veterans Care and access to it. It is important to me to do ‘the right things for the right reasons. I place a very high value on honesty and integrity. As a Veteran myself (two tours in Iraq), the son of a Vet (two tours in Vietnam), and the father of a Vet (two tours in Afghanistan), this is an extremely personal stewardship which I hold dear. In this time of crisis in Veterans Healthcare history I wish to be a part of the generation of leaders that “Grows an organizational culture rooted in VA’s Core Values and mission that prioritizes the Veteran First, engaging and inspiring employees to their highest possible level of performance and conduct”, in accordance with our Blueprint for Excellence. I wish to be a part of that movement which restores confidence in our Veterans Healthcare system. The Veterans healthcare is a sacred trust we must never take for granted, the healthcare of our valued protectors, the soldiers, sailors and airmen of our armed forces. I greatly value building high functioning teams of people focused on serving others and the needs of our Veterans.
I have served eleven years in the VA system. I am currently the Chief of Staff (Select) January 2019. For the last year I have been Interim Chief of Staff at Texas Valley Coastal Bend, I recently led a SPEAR team (SAIL Project for Effects Actions and Results) to focus our efforts on Quality improvement. As a result of these efforts, we have gone from 125 in the national SAIL metric to position 82 in the last year. We have successfully been removed from the high-risk list and are now the fastest improving VA Healthcare system in the nation two quarters in a row. I was recently interviewed by the National Center for Organizational Development NCOD for their Employee Engagement Toolbox as we had improved much more rapidly than others in the nation. In these roles I have improved Care Coordination, Communication, Clinic utilization and been instrumental in Re initializing PACT.
