Overview of Dr. Iwamoto
Fabio Iwamoto, MD, is Professor of Neurology and Neurological Sciences and Professor of Neurosurgery at Stanford University School of Medicine. He serves as Chief of the Division of Neuro-Oncology, Co-Director of the Stanford Brain Tumor Center, Director of Neurosurgical Oncology Clinical Research, and Director of the Stanford Cancer Institute Neuro-Oncology Clinical Research Program.
Dr. Iwamoto is an internationally recognized neuro-oncologist with expertise in the diagnosis and management of primary and metastatic brain tumors, spinal cord tumors, and the neurological complications of cancer. His clinical practice emphasizes multidisciplinary care and the integration of novel therapies through clinical research.
His research focuses on translational neuro-oncology, glioma immunotherapy, precision medicine, and early-phase clinical trials. He has served as principal investigator for numerous investigator-initiated, cooperative group, and industry-sponsored clinical trials evaluating novel therapeutic strategies for patients with malignant brain tumors. His work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, foundation grants, and industry collaborations, and he has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications.
Prior to joining Stanford, Dr. Iwamoto was Professor of Neurology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, where he served as Deputy Director of the Division of Neuro-Oncology and Clinical Director of Brain Tumor Research. Earlier in his career, he was an Assistant Clinical Investigator in the Neuro-Oncology Branch of the National Institutes of Health, where he conducted translational and clinical research in malignant brain tumors.
Dr. Iwamoto completed his neurology residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and his fellowship in Neuro-Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
