- Jeffrey Janis, MD, is a Professor of Plastic Surgery at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he serves as Chief of Plastic Surgery at University Hospital, Vice Chair of Academic Affairs, and Co-Director of the Center for Abdominal Core Health. He also holds adjunct professorships in Neurosurgery, Neurology, and Surgery.
Dr. Janis earned his business degree from Washington University’s Olin School of Business and his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University. He completed plastic surgery training at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where he later served as Residency Program Director and Chief of Plastic Surgery at Parkland Memorial Hospital.
He has held numerous national leadership roles, including Past President of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (youngest in its history), the American Council of Educators in Plastic Surgery (ACEPS) (youngest in the history of the Society), the Columbus Medical Association, the Migraine Surgery Society (Founding President), and the American Hernia Society (first plastic surgeon). He is also a Past Chair of the ASPS Board of Trustees and served two terms on the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Board of Governors (2019–2025).
Currently, Dr. Janis is Editor-in-Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery – Global Open, a member of the ACGME Plastic Surgery Residency Review Committee, Chair of the ACS Advisory Council for Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery, serves on the Executive Committee for the Ohio Valley Society of Plastic Surgeons (OVSPS), and an active peer reviewer for nearly 100 scientific journals.
He has been a Visiting Professor at 67 institutions worldwide and has authored over 320 peer-reviewed articles, 115 book chapters, and 9 textbooks, with additional books and a digital application forthcoming. His work has been cited nearly 19,000 times, with an h-index of 65 and an i10-index of 225.
