  • Dr. Jennifer Boland is currently an Associate Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She received undergraduate degrees in Microbiology and Biology from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where she graduated with highest honors. She pursued a medical degree at Washington University in Saint Louis, graduating as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She then completed her anatomic and clinical pathology residency training at Mayo Clinic, followed by a surgical pathology fellowship, where she served as chief resident and chief fellow, respectively. She completed the pulmonary pathology fellowship at Mayo Clinic, and completed specialty interest training in soft tissue and bone pathology during her training as well. She joined the staff of Mayo Clinic Rochester in 2012. Dr. Boland’s current sign-out responsibilities include general surgical pathology and specialty sign-out in pulmonary pathology. Areas of research interest include sarcomas and mesenchymal neoplasms of the lung and thorax, as well as lung cancer and pediatric pulmonary pathology, and she has thus far published over 70 peer-reviewed articles and 18 book chapters in these areas. She coauthored several chapters in the newest WHO “blue books”, covering topics in the lung/mediastinal sections as well as classification of soft tissue tumors. She has also given many educational and research-based talks on these topics at the regional, national, and international level. Dr. Boland enjoys teaching medical students, residents and fellows, and received the Mayo Clinic Fellows’ Association Teacher of the Year Award in Anatomic Pathology in 2015. She has active institutional leadership roles in medical education, serving as the program director for the Mayo Clinic surgical pathology fellowship, and vice-chair of education for the Division of Anatomic Pathology at Mayo Clinic Rochester.
